5 Best Speakeasys to Sneak a Drink in Dallas

Thompson's Bookstore
Thompson's Bookstore is as fine a speakeasy as you'll ever find. While it is located a bit outside of Dallas in Fort Worth, it is worth a visit. Inside the Vybek building, this bar is full of old school charm and tries to recreate a prohibition era feel while still serving up delicious, unique cocktails. While you're there, stick around and try some other Fort Worth favorites near by as well.

Bourbon and Banter @ The Statler
Bourbon & Banter which is located in The Statler hotel in Downtown Dallas recently opened up in late 2017, and was the start of The Statler Hotel's selection of stellar bars and restaurants. Wind your way through the lobby, down the stairs, and around a corner until you find a lone telephone booth and a shoe-shine bench. From there, the hostess out front will enter a code for you on the phone and voila! a secret door in the the wood paneled room opens up to reveal a luxurious bar that serves up equally as boujee cocktails. And while you're at the Statler, don't forget to check out their other restaurants and bars including a rooftop pool bar.

High and Tight Barbershop

High and Tight Barbershop is perhaps one of the trickiest speakeasys to spot because it is in fact also a barbershop by day. But enter through the Barbershop and follow the green light to then be escorted into the bar where they offer a variety of unique cocktails as well as live music most nights.Wander Well Tip: If you want to avoid the line, try walking around to the back entrance on Elm and follow the red light to find the bouncer who can let you in.

Truth & Alibi
Truth & Alibi might just have the most fun facade of all the speakeasys in town; it poses as a candy shop from the outside. Enter the doors and tell the bouncer the passcode (found on their facebook page) and the candy wall will open to reveal dim lighting, glowing chandeliers, and swanky seating. While some speakeasys promise a more quiet, relaxed evening, you should expect just the opposite here. When you enter, you will be greeted with loud music, bottle service, and if you arrive late enough perhaps even a dance floor. Wander Well Tip: This spot fills up quick so if you aren't interested in waiting in line, plan to arrive far before midnight.

Atwater Alley
If you've lived in Dallas any length of time, you have most likely been to Henry's Majestic. But what some people don't know, is that if you walk around toward the side alley you will find their adjoining speakeasy. This is a hidden gem where you simply tell the bartender a few ideas (for example, "How about something smokey, floral, and with tequila") and he can whip you a delightful creation. This speakeasy is two floors with bars on each, but can definitely fill up fast so arrive early if you want to snag a seat.
